Saskatchewan SINP Reopens: New Changes 2025
The interim halt on the filing of Job Approval Forms (JAFs) for the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) was formally withdrawn by the Government of Saskatchewan in a press release on March 27, 2025.
This suspension, which was first announced in February of this year, was implemented as part of Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan for 2025–2027, which outlines the country’s strategy to lower total immigration numbers across numerous provincial immigration streams.
What is SNIP?
The initial purpose of the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) was to draw in and keep immigrants who would eventually become permanent residents of Canada by advancing the economic development and prosperity of the province. When competent Canadian candidates were not available to fill open positions, SINP allowed Saskatchewan firms to engage foreign workers, which has been extremely helpful, especially during labour shortages. However, the Saskatchewan government has been forced to re-evaluate their immigration plan in light of the current unemployment rate in Canada.
Impact of SINP
Due to limited nomination allocations, as stated in the Immigration Level’s plan, the SINP procedure has been restarted with program modifications. Businesses and employers in Saskatchewan would suffer greatly, according to Deputy Premier and Immigration and Career Training Minister Jim Reiter, because the SINP was essential in filling open positions in the province.
The Focus of Saskatchewan
In light of these cuts, Saskatchewan is concentrating on luring and keeping foreign workers in a few industries, particularly skilled trades, agriculture, and health care. In spite of lower funding, this program has been redesigned to better match the SINP with Saskatchewan’s long-term labour market objectives while preserving program integrity. Spas, salons, and pet care facilities were once permitted to employ foreign nationals under SINP; however, this is no longer the case, with the exception of pet spas that employ veterinarians.
SINP Streams Closed
Along with the province’s focused immigration strategy, Saskatchewan has decided to stop accepting applications for some SINP programs. In the past, SINP consisted of three immigration programs—the Saskatchewan Entrepreneur and Farm, Saskatchewan Experience, and Saskatchewan Skilled Worker programs—each with many streams. However, the province has declared that the Farm Owner/Operator, International Graduate Entrepreneur, and Entrepreneur categories will be permanently closed in response to the decreased immigration allocations.
